Holidays Day 1 - Maitland Jail

Day 1 of our little trip around the country side saw us arrive at Maitland Jail. We kept trying to tell the kids that there were going to stay but they didn't believe us !!!

The jail hasn't been used since 1996 and was opened in 1848. The tour is conducted via an audio tour which you can take at your own pace. The funny thing about the tour was that each adult was attached to each child !! So Sandy was attached to E and me with C. You really had to work out what was happening and where each person was going. It felt like we were in a three legged race !!

The first building you see when you arrive is the Chapel.

Inside the exercise yard which they were allowed into for 1 hour each day.

And the vent that they escaped through. We have no idea how they fitted up there !

The newer single person cells with a small outdoor area. Still very cramped.

After the jail journey we headed off to our accommodation at the luxurious Cyprus Lakes Resort which was a hop, skip and jump to the Hunter Valley Gardens !! This was the view that we arrived to ....

The lovely little bunnies that were there to greet us. The kids loved it !!
