The Louvre

So after our failure at the Eiffel Tower we did end up at The Louvre. Our main reason to visit was to see the Mona Lisa.

The foyer of the section where the Mona Lisa is held.

The ceiling inside this section was beautiful

When we arrived we followed our map and the signs to get to the Mona Lisa. I don't really know what I was expecting but thought it would be out in the open and you couldn't miss it. Well we missed it !!! There was a smaller room off to the side which I glanced in and wondered why there were so many people inside, lucky there was a second door to the room and we then realised that was where Mona Lisa lived !! Boy is that woman popular, it was a major crush to get to the front but I did !!! No one was going to stop me !!!

So there she was on her own wall all by herself behind glass. A little disappointed but understand why with so many people taking photos all day every day.

So here she is !!
Told you she was popular !!!
This is the massive painting opposite.

Jim and I wondered what else we would like to see while we were here so we both decided to head to the Ancient Egypt section.

A little creepy but very interesting at the same time.

Jars to keep their insides in !! Yuk !!!

Some of them were massive

We even became part of the art work !!!

The foyer
Looking up through the Pyramid Ceiling.

Apparently when Grandma Palmer visited Paris she always remembered the Exit signs. So here you go Grandma the next picture is just for you. Sorry that we can't now get together and compare notes !!

So that concludes our wonderful trip to Paris !!! Thank you Paris for your wonderful hospitality, beautiful scenery, bomb scares and crazy traffic !! I will return one day and bring my family with me. Now back on the train to London and more exciting adventures.

Paris Day 4

Our last full day in Paris was to be a bus trip, a tour of the Eiffel Tower, a river cruise and if there was time a trip to The Louvre. The bus tour was taken but the rest sort of got a little muddled up with no river cruise and no going up the Tower !!! Stay tuned !!!

Our bus tour was a hop on hop off open top tour. First destination was The Louvre then onto Norte Dame with us hopping off at the Eiffel Tower.

We wondered if we were going to fit !!

Still wondering !!!

Yes we fitted and popped out at the Louvre !!

Norte Dame
A man begging on the street.

As I have said before the roads were chaos in Paris. The next picture shows you just how the traffic works. Our bus was waiting at the lights to turn left and three cars pulled along side to do the same thing. Right next to us not behind as we do here. Total chaos !!

Heading up the Champs De Elysee

Louis Viton store on the Champs de Elysee

The beautiful Arc de Triomphe

An electric car recharge station.

Heading back to the Tower.

Back again ready to head to the top.

Horse rides around the tower.

Look nearly there !!!
So after an hour and a half waiting in line we bought our tickets, made it through security and went inside to wait for the lift. We made it all the way to the door of the lift when we were told that we must evacuate the area immediately !!! Just our luck !!! So off we went back outside to find the place deserted !! They obviously cleared the outside before they came to get us. We were thankful though that we weren't already on the first or second floors as they were made to walk down the stairs and were the last ones to evacuate.

Walking down from the 1st and 2nd floors.

Police and Military came from everywhere and blocked it all off.

We couldn't even get to the river to get on a cruise :(

After about an hour of waiting to see if it would reopen again we made the decision to leave and try to get some more things packed in. We obviously were never meant to go up the tower. Oh well better luck next time. Our only problem was finding a bus stop close by as all the roads to the tower were blocked off.

Bye-bye tower see you again one day.

The funny thing and a little annoying thing was that by the time we headed back and got on the bus the tower had reopened again !!! Just our luck !!! Oh well onto our next adventure.

The Church of Magdalene
My one and only picture of the Moulin Rouge
Gare De Nord Train Station
Loved these bike hire stations but would never hire one !!

Onto the next adventure ...........
