Australia Day 2011

Family, friends and great weather - what more could you want for Australia Day ?? !!

This year the kids and I (Sandy stayed at home) spent the afternoon at Wollongong Harbour. Each year the council organises a fantastic day of events with rides, food and entertainment all ending with a terrific fireworks display over the harbour.

We love going every year and with mum living just up the road it is great to have a base to keep going back to. Also there this year were Uncle Jim, Aunty June and Denis, Mum, Helen and Janet. Unfortunately Jared, Tracee and the kids couldn't make it due to work commitments but they were there in spirit !!

The next round of pics are from our walk down to the rides which are just at the bottom of the hill from mums. Last year I was a scrooge and didn't allow the kids to get any tickets for the rides other than the giant slide so this year I decided to splurge and so glad that I did. They had a great time on the few rides that we could afford. They were both fantastic and patient and I was so proud of E for being so brave and getting on the rides on her own.

After the rides it was back upstairs for a traditional Oz dinner of sausage rolls, party pies, prawns and lamingtons !! Yummo ! Can't get better than that.

After dinner we went back down the street for another look around and to get some yummy ice cream, then it was time to secure our spots for the fireworks display !

I did try to take pictures of the fireworks but they didn't work out but believe me they were worth it !!

This Australia Day was fantastic with perfect sunny weather, lots of happy (sun burnt) and patriotic people, good food, great company and great entertainment. We can't wait for next year !! Happy Australia Day !!
