Day 3 Palace of Versailles

Today was one BIG and long day. The best way to get to the Palace is by train. The whole train goes to the same place so it was quite funny to see everyone going in the same direction and going to the same place. But it is all set up for such large numbers of people. So with tickets bought we headed up to the Palace.

Be warned that there are ALOT of pictures to this post !!!

First look at the Palace.

The lines were massive. We started on the left and had to get to the right !!
We ended up in the line for 2 1/2 hours !! Lucky we went in the morning. The whole front courtyard was full by the time we got to the front gate. I reckon there would have easily been 100 people per line and more than 30 lines that kept growing and growing !!

The gates were beautiful and shone bright in the sun.

Woohoo finally inside the Palace
Knowing how packed out it would be inside the Palace straight away we decided to head to the gardens first and thought that going from the back to the front would be better. It SO was for us but we had big trouble getting back into the Palace at the end of the day. There was not a way in after you go out !! Whoops so for anyone that is heading here, you MUST go through the Palace First !!! Now for a mountain of pictures !!!

King Neptune, just wish the fountains were working.
At the rear of the gardens was the holiday home for Marie Antoinette which I had been really looking forward to and was not disappointed.

Marie Antoinette had these mirrors installed in her home. The mirrors were used during the night as shutters then during the day they were lowered down to let the light in the windows. Such a neat invention in the 1800's !!!

Also close by was another palace The Grand Triannon. Again a beautiful place made from pink marble with beautiful gardens.

Nice bedroom for the king !!
This was Jim's favourite room, he loved the colours.

Pretty gardens

They even have their own lake !!

Practicing the selfie !! Not to bad I say !!

This was our view for lunch. Not bad hey ?? !!
We had a lovely spot for lunch and very surprised that there was a restaurant and take away outlet in the gardens. Wherever you could get a spot in the shade you grabbed with both hands !! We sat and people watched for a while which I love to do and enjoyed watching the people taking the boats for a ride on the lake and the kids having donkey rides. You could also hire a bike to travel round the palace !!

One way to keep out of the sun !!!

The upside down tree.

So after our lovely walk through the gardens we headed back into the Palace, thank goodness they let us back in !! Boy was it crowded in there !! It was worth it though the place was beautiful. So much detail on all the walls and ceilings but very hot and lots of pushing and shoving. The hall of mirrors at the end was one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen and although I took a mountain of photos it is one of those places that you have to see for yourself as pictures do not do it justice.

The Grand Ballroom.

The Hall of mirrors was beautiful.

The front courtyard that was full of people in the morning now empty.
So after a VERY long and hot day it was back on the train and home for a well earned rest and nurse some sunburn !! Stay tuned for more adventures !!
